MELL WRITES HERE
I love books. I just need to you to know that.
A lot of professionals read, and also a lot also say you should read non-fiction instead on fiction. I don't know if they mean only non-fictions, but I think that both book types gives you a good balance. One keeps you grounded to reality, and one helps you escape from your troubles. So, in the the spirit of trying to get people to read more, here's a short list of books (some I've read, some not yet) which I feel could give you that balance of fantasy-reality. This list could go very long, or very short. 1. The Art of Thinking Clearly, Rolf Dobelli 2. Quiet, Susan Cain 3. Crazy Rich Asians, Kevin Kwan 4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky 5. A Song of Ice and Fire #1: A Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin 6. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen R. Covey 7. Quiet Impact, Sylvia Loehken 8. The Introvert's Way, Sophia Dembling 9. The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath 10. The Fault In Our Stars, John Green (If you notice, I like books about introversion, because I'm a introvert.) So tell me, what books have you read and loved? I like book recommendations, so send some my way if you do have!

Hello, world.
The first two words I generated in Programming class way back in my degree days in 2008. Also, hello to you. I intend for this blog to be like a professional tell-a-story of my so-called career/work life. We'll see how far I can stretch it. If you've read other pages of my online portfolio, you may or may already have a sense of who or what I am. If you don't, then I suppose that's fine, too. Just so you know, I love books. I buy them faster than I can read them, but I love them all. I also like music, and pairing books and music and blog posts together. But since I've done the music + blog post on my personal blog, I'll make this one a book + blog post. If you're a reader, and feel like you'd like to recommend me a book to read, drop me a line. I read almost everything, but my favs are always fiction, biographies, psychology, and language. If you're not a reader, I'll (try to) recommend a book in each blog post, in case it piques your curiosity. I'll try to post as often as I can. Why this online portfolio, you may ask? Initially, it was a mock page I set up during my teaching years at Curtin Sarawak, for EFPC (if you're reading this, and you're from Curtin, know that I miss that place. If you know me personally, drop me another line. I've been meaning to post up something about it on this blog for a while now but #procrastination happened). I ended up getting too much into it that I decided to set a real one for myself. I've been getting odd hits ever since, I'm not sure how people even end up here, though. Anyway. If you've reached the end of the post, thanks for reading my random rambles, and the need to express myself in words (because I'm an introvert and have minimal friends). Book rec: The Art of Thinking Clearly, by Rolf Dobelli. This is one of my fav books ever, and one of the best I've read in my short life so far. A good book to read if you are trying to achieve self-actualisation. |
